The general rule is you need to have lived in the UK for at least three years before you can apply for a UK mortgage. This is so you'll have three years' worth of address history and a reliable, traceable credit history too. However, you may also need to meet tighter affordability criteria and provide additional paperwork before a lender is willing to approve your application. Each lender will have its own affordability checks and their requirements often differ depending on the type of visa you have. They’ll also look at your financial situation, just like they would with any other mortgage applicant.
