History
Crosby has a long history! The name comes from Viking times (Krossabyr in Old Norse, meaning "village with the cross"), and the village was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Crosebi, but by the year 1212 had become Crosseby.
It remained a small village until the mi-19th century with the arrival of the railway, after which Crosby grew rapidly. Today, Crosby has retained its rural character - in fact Little Crosby is considered the oldest Roman Catholic village in existence in England!
Crosby Beach is home to Antony Gormley’s “Another Place” — an art installation consisting of 100 cast-iron figures looking out to sea.
